TVS X First Ride Impressions

TVS X – First Ride Impressions After 100 km | Unpopular Opinion

TVS X created a buzz in the electric scooter market when it was unveiled back in late August. We got a chance to ride it for around 100 kms, and we are going to talk all about the riding quality, efficiency, and features of the new scooter. We’ll also discuss if this is a value-for-money buy, including specifications and service costs.

Design and Aerodynamics

Key Design Elements

Sporty and Premium Look

The TVS X is inspired by the TVS XLETON platform, offering a sporty and premium look with a red and black design and a hint of blue. The materials used are also of high quality, making for a product you’d be happy with.

Aerodynamics

The scooter has a harmonious aerodynamic profile that facilitates proper airflow to the motor. The motor is ram air cooled, and as speed increases, more air passes through, making it easier to cool down during heavy performance.

LED Lighting Setup

The TVS LED Tech 2.0 provides customisable LED headlights with a variety of lighting signatures. The turn indicators are also animated in the direction of the turn, and the hazard lamps provide sharp, static orange throws for visibility. Cornering lights are also included to illuminate just below the vehicle during turns.

Features and Ride Quality

Key Features

Adjustable Brake Bars

For user convenience, the scooter comes with adjustable brake bars that you can set according to your finger and hand size.

Vehicle Sharing

You can create up to 5 profiles for frequent users. Each profile has its own customised home screen, favourite locations, and ride history. As the owner, you can also control the top speed for each profile and fetch the live location of the vehicle.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

The scooter has a built-in tire pressure monitoring system, allowing you to view the tire pressure on the instrument cluster at any time.

Ride Quality and Performance

Suspension and Comfort

The TVS X offers a premium ride quality. The telescopic suspension in the front and the Mono-shock in the rear perform well on normal road conditions. The seats have nice cushioning and are comfortable for both the rider and pillion on short city rides.

Speed and Charging

Acceleration is decent, and while the top speed is claimed to be 105 km/h, we were able to get it up to 112 km/h. A fast charger can give you 50% battery in 50 minutes, while a full charge takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes. The normal charger takes around 4.5 hours for a full charge.

The Feature-Packed Instrument Cluster

Features of the 10.2″ TFT Display

The expansive and tilt-able 10.2-inch panoramic TFT display is a major highlight. You can use it for almost everything you would use your smartphone for. You can use YouTube, scroll through IG reels, and use maps efficiently. It also has a pre-loaded music library with ambient sounds and even allows you to play games like Fruit Ninja while in parking mode.

Offline Maps

You can mark your favorite locations or even download offline maps for any two states at a time.

Customization

You can customize the Home Screen with whatever information you’d like to have, such as weather, traffic, or other data.

Tilt-able Console

Since it is an LCD display, it doesn’t have great viewing angles. To resolve this, TVS has made the display tilt-able so you can adjust it for better visibility.

Pricing and Final Verdict

Price and Range

Range

TVS claims a range of around 140 km on a single charge. This is a pretty normal number, and higher modes will decrease the range.

Price

The scooter costs a whopping ₹2.49 lakhs (ex-showroom). The first 1000 customers also get a free Garmin smartwatch worth around ₹25,000.

Overall, the TVS X is a nice thrill-electric scooter with heavy performance and a very nice look. The aerodynamics are really good and should solve any heating issues. The instrument cluster and features are top-notch. While the price point is a little hard to digest, the premium quality of the product justifies the cost.
